NAS JAX and T.S. Fay

When tropical storm Fay came through in late August, it caused a lot of chaos in the city. Our base got a good punch with winds coming across 3.1 miles of open water. Winds gusting up to 65mph pushed the river towards the base, causing a 3ft water level rise. This caused boats to break from their anchors, 2 hitting the Buckman Bridge, and over half a dozen being pushed into the woods on base. Along with them, came large amounts of trash that mixed with dead river grasses. In some areas, this stuff piled up to 1.5ft deep. Bottles, styrofoam, boards, even a boat number marker for the NAS JAX marina washed up. It has been over 2 months, and this stuff still sits along the shoreline.
