Flooded by Fay
When the realtor showed us a riverfront home in 2006 - we knew we had found the perfect home! The views are magnificent and we virtually stopped watching TV and sat outside each night and watched "Bridge TV" - perched between the Hart and Matthews Bridges with all of downtown in the background. It was our safe harbor until August 22, 2008 when Tropical Storm Fay hit at high tide. The massive rainfall and winds made the mighty St. Johns breach our bulkhead (and our neighbors) and completely flooded us (up to our knees) within an hour! The fact we are on septic and had no power made it worse...River water AND sewage water!!! It was a nightmare and quite surreal to see what Mother Nature can do. We are trying to keep our sanity now by focusing on re-building our home - but believe me it will be raised at least 6 feet so we never have to suffer through another flood. AND we are going completely Green - solar, water reclamation, etc. We can't wait to get home!!! - by Michaela Miller and Steve Sadler
