Journey Begins on Saturday

On Saturday, Keith Legette and I will begin our kayak trip of the entire 310 miles of the St. Johns River. We plan to complete the trip in only 11 days (Dec. 13th – Dec. 23rd). The purpose of the trip is to promote public awareness for the river and to generate interest in kayaking, camping, and exploring the St. Johns.

We will be launching at Blue Cypress Lake on Dec. 13th and paddling to the mouth of the river at Mayport. We will arrive at Huguenot Park on Dec. 23rd.

On the last leg of the trip, we will be joined by Up the Creek Xpeditions’ staff and members of the Florida Sea Kayak Association. If you would like to join us on the leg of the trip from Exchange Island to Huguenot, contact Jimmy Orth with St. Johns Riverkeeper for more details. His e-mail is jorth@ju.edu. You must be an experienced paddler to participate.

We will have a SPOT® Messenger that will provide real-time tracking throughout the trip via our website.
